  OUR HISTORY, OUR BEGINNING

Alpha Psi Lambda was founded on March 10, 1985 on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. In May of 1984, a group of undergraduate students led by Dr. Josue Cruz, Assistant Vice Provost to the Office of Minority Affairs, set out to research the country for other Greek lettered organizations and learn how to begin a Latino/a fraternity at The Ohio State University. On February 11, 1985, the thirteen founders were officially initiated into Alpha Psi Lambda as "Los Primeros".

It was in 2005, 20 years later, that another group of thirteen men and women came together to bring Alpha Psi Lambda to The University of Texas at Austin. The thirteen Sigma founders were officially initiated into Alpha Psi Lambda as "El Encendimiento".
